Barnwood and a Repaint

We're using some of the barn wood from I salvaged from our barn makeover last summer.

This is the wood as it was for 80 years, aging nicely.

We cut it up into planks...

to be a backdrop for all these iron hooks and knobs we purchased.

They'll be awesome! Find them at Ginger & Spice Marketplace at at Stylish Patina Barn Sale this month.

Since we got a 'balmy' day of 41 degrees, Krista and I painted a couple pieces that hadn't sold. Krista repainted this Waterfall dresser white (it was a very pale grey).

And I painted the frilly vanity. It will be gorgeous when it's done.
Will post an after photo.

Lisa lives in the house that is next to the Stylish Patina barn. She goes out picking' and comes back with great stuff. She stores it in her horse trailer right out front. While Krista and I were inside the trailer picking up a cute chair (that will go with the filly vanity), Lisa drove up with a truck load of vintage finds. She didn't even have to load it in her trailer. Right into our truck it went! We each got a wood ladder ...

and I snagged this great shelf/cart thing. It even rolls around! I'll use it next weekend for the Sweetheart Sale at my studio, filled with colorful yarn. Yippee for being in the right place at the right time.

More Cool Stuff

I can't seem to pass a Goodwill store in my travels. Or a junk shop. Or a dumpster that looks like it has treasures. Or a pile of stuff set out for the trash people.
I went junkin' with a friend yesterday up in Pennsylvania. I found this awesome old wash board. It's wood on one side....

and metal on the other. I think the wooden side will work well for notes or to hold old photos, while the back side could be used for magnets (holding notes). Can't have too many notes.

 love the details

Will probably paint this white and make it into a serving center for outdoor meals.

More old rusty stuff. I have an idea to use that bucket for a light. It has holes in the bottom so would be pretty cool for that.

Many uses for these old funnels...

like this!

or this

For some reason I've never seen these iron holders before, but now I've come across three of them in different places. The one on the left would make a cool message board and the one on the right would work for holding earrings.

Krista and I are going to have a yellow theme in the spring so are collecting things that have yellow. This old stirrup would be a cute napkin holder.

and this cute serving bowl.

Such a great bucket/ice cream maker? Love the Pennsylvania Dutch designs on it.

Makes me want to eat some sauerkraut and applesauce.

Vintage glasses have my heart.

...as do old milk jugs.

and this carrier is just over the top cute. These would be great holding big zinnias for a table centerpiece in the summer.

Whooooooooooo can say bookend owls?

Such a nice little creamer, or colored pencil holder or vase.

But SCORE! on this retro salad service set! I thought it was a punch bowl but no handles on the little bowls. The salad servers are cool too. Love those 1960's colors. Would make a great set for gazpacho soup.

Speaking of 60's, check out these delightful bowls. Stackable is a bonus!

Anything with red gets my attention.

I got a few more things but I was taking photos in my carriage house and my hands wouldn't work anymore, it was so cold. My camera was complaining too. But it was a good day for picking and now have to get it into Ginger and Spice Marketplace. But let me know if you're interested in anything before it's gone.

Getting Ready for the Weekend

SP Barn Sale - Friday, Saturday, Sunday, January 18, 19, 20, 10-5, 4051 Stanford Ct., Frederick
Ginger & Spice - 21 W. Pennsylvania Ave., Walkersville

Krista and I worked at both Ginger & Spice and the SP Barn today. We returned to the barn to rearrange the dining table after we scored lots of dishes and silver ware at various Goodwills. (yea for thrifting!)

We went with a green theme for this time with these cute little plates, stacked upon a larger plate.

All the little plates are a different design but they all go together nicely. Now we're on the lookout for various plates in a different color for every month. I told Krista we've turned into old ladies! Well, we're old anyway but now we're excited about finding cute little plates! (I gotta get on my mountain bike and race down a rocky single track to counteract this china habit!)

Here's Krista gleefully stacking plates.

Here's another peek at the finished table. Don't you just want to sit down and sip wine and dine on Coquilles St-Jacques?

We arranged the chemistry bottles on a beautiful cut glass vanity tray.

Krista covered her antique rocking chair with a burlap coffee bag.

We left Ginger & Spice, darting over to the barn to make last minute changes for the sale this weekend. Hope you can make it out to see us!

January Barn Sale

Friday, Saturday, Sunday, January 18, 19, 20, 10-5
I can't believe it's time for yet another barn sale! We had even more time between sales but time just seemed to just zip by. Krista and I have been working most of the week getting this furniture finished. The weather did not cooperate at all. It was drippy, foggy, misty, and downright raining for 6 days now, not very conducive for getting paint to dry. Yep, we lead such an exciting life, watching paint dry.

This is such a great little dresser, nice details and original hardware. The half table on top is so handy for small spaces.

If this beautiful 'frilly' vanity doesn't sell this month, it's getting a pretty coat of white.

We have lamps...sorta gaudy gold & white,

and the very popular oil rubbed bronze with an Edison light bulb.

We kept in a bit of red for the upcoming Valentine's Day.

So, stop on by to see some sweet deals. Hope to see ya!
